THE SURROUNDING AREAFrom the Montgenèvre Pass (5500 feet), you can embark on the incredible Chenaillet geological tour, which takes you through the history of the Alpine Ocean. Also, from Chaberton peak, at a height of over 9000 feet, the view is simply breathtaking. La Durance river, which rises in Montgenèvre’s high mountain pastures, takes you into France, to Briançon. This town was fortified by Vauban and is registered with UNESCO as an international heritage. You can also follow La Doire river, on the Italian side, to Torino, a town of many attractions, with its various museums, its historically-loaded streets contrasted by its Italian-style stores, and its famous weekly market. If you decide to stay in Montgenèvre, for the summer, you can choose from a whole list of activities, in a unique setting: hiking or all-terrain biking, bike park, acrobatic tree-climbing, lake fishing, summer sledging, tennis, swimming, etc. Experienced golfers will love the course (18 holes with Italy); meanwhile, there are also all the facilities (practice and compact course) for beginners. In Winter, Montgenèvre offers: over 250 miles of track, along the Franco-Italian Milky Way, cross-country ski slopes (all styles), a free ride zone with pipe, snowshoe and walking routes, snowbike hikes, ice-skating rink, and, for the first time, for the 2010/2011 season, a winter sled trail, sensation guaranteed! |
